I created this blog with the hope of raising some awareness of the disease Hypoplasminogenemia.
Hypoplasminogenemia is a systemic disease that is usually characterised by the impaired healing of the mucosal membranes. This disease can initially manifest during infancy but, it can occur at any time.
The most common part of the body that hypoplasminogenemia affects is the eyes- known as ligneous conjunctivitis. However, the disease can affect the respiratory tract, the female genital tract, the central nervous system, the skin and the gastrointestinal tract.
Although there is no set treatment for this disease as of yet.. I am currently taking part in a clinical trial which is formulating a plasminogen infusion that alleviates the symptoms and provides a greater quality of life.
If you suffer or know of someone that suffers from this disorder, please share your story with us and help create a greater support network, we would love to hear from you!
